Teamwork works

The Milwaukee Brewers won the NL Central for the first time since 2011, thanks to the teamwork of players like Christian Yelich, Ryan Braun and Jesus Aguilar.

Oh, and did I mention, I am a huge fan?

The Brewers got me thinking about teamwork as it pertains to owning a business. In your company, you are the leader of a team, or as Forbes suggests, the “puzzle pieces that can be placed together in a variety of ways.”

Each team member’s responsibilities must be interconnected and dependent upon one another. Good teamwork leads to success.

It takes hard work and commitment to foster teamwork in the office. Here are five ways to get your team in sync:

• You can’t expect good teamwork if you’re not a good leader. You set the
  tone.

• Communicate clearly. Your team should feel safe to share their ideas,
points of view, and feelings. There are no bad ideas.

The more clearly you define each team member’s role and responsibilities, the more effectively they can meet expectations. Encourage team members to help each other.

• Resolve tension and conflict as quickly as possible to prevent communication breakdowns and a division of team members. Put in place clear and concise ways for employees to resolve issues so they know their voice is heard.

• Finally, have a positive attitude and use that energy to inspire the others.

And remember: “There is no such thing as a self-made man. You will reach your goals only with the help of others.” – George Shinn

Go, Brewers, go!
