Mobile franchise owners are driving themselves to success, thanks to lower start-up costs than a storefront business, fewer employees, flexible hours and easy access to customers.
Strapped for time, today’s customers appreciate the convenience mobile services bring directly to their homes or businesses. Plus, mobile franchise options go well beyond flower and pizza deliveries.
From environmentally-friendly lawn care services to house painting, appliance repair to food trucks and dog washing, mobile franchises, along with home-related franchises, are two of the fastest growing sectors of the franchising market, according to the International Franchise Association. It’s a trend that’s sure to continue.
“The return on investment for a mobile franchise concept many times can easily exceed the return on a traditional franchise model,” writes franchisingusamagazine.com. “Without the expense of a retail space, equipment and other costs associated with a traditional business model, mobile franchising numbers can be quite impressive and make a compelling case.”
Whether your interests lie in food services, home care, auto care, or something completely different, there’s a mobile franchise opportunity out there for you. Let’s take a look at a few popular categories:

- If you’re looking for lower investment business opportunity that doesn’t require your “9-5 Monday-Friday full time attention” I’d consider these mobile / food truck options. All in for generally less than 200k. Low number of employees with proven decent returns, and for a few on our list – you don’t have any food prep, either! Great way to dip your toe into a food franchise without build outs and a ton of moving parts.
- Depending on where you live, some of these options are seasonal, which can occasionally be a turn off for franchise candidates. Something to consider though, is the fact that these businesses aren’t generally paying 12 months of rent or even paying employees to be working during non busy/off season hours, which means more $ per hour and quicker return. You also have more time to plan and market, recruit the best staff and most importantly, you can supplement other income with a strong season “part time” income.
- With prices for mobile franchises around $80,000 to $200,000, you’ll likely be able to secure a lower rate for an equipment loan to finance some of this purchase. Good News is that banks and online lenders offer equipment financing that is secured by the vehicle or equipment you’re purchasing. Make sure to work with a qualified lender who knows the industry!
